State Rep. Blaine Wilhour is reminding residents that National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. National Take-Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.
The Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
The Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. The last Take-Back Day brought in more than 900,000 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication. This brings the total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 to 10,878,950 pounds.
