Rep. Wilhour Supports Lake Land Career Conference for Area Students

District Director, Lori Bear, answered questions about working in a legislative office and the many opportunities working for the State of Illinois.

Stage Rep. Blaine Wilhour participated in the 8th Grade Career Conference again this year to help teach young people about the variety of jobs and career paths available to them with the Illinois House of Representatives and the State of Illinois. Lake Land College hosts this event over two days for several hundred 8th Grade students from schools in the area served by Lake Land College.

“Thank you to my District Director, Lori Bear, for helping to educate the opportunities available to young people looking for options choosing a career,” said Rep. Wilhour, a member of the Elementary & Secondary Education Committee in the House of Representatives.

On April 9 and 10, 2026, Lake Land College and the Education for Employment System 340 co-hosted the 8th grade career conference, an annual event designed to help young students discover rewarding, local career paths.

During the event, students met with local employers representing a wide range of industries, including agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, business and more. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, explore their interests, learn about educational requirements and draw career inspiration from accomplished professionals.

Rep. Wilhour’s legislative staff hosted a table at the event to connect with students. The event was held in the Lake Land College Field House from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. both days.
