SALEM – Happy 200th Birthday to Marion County! Two hundred years ago on January 24th, the county was created out of portions of Fayette County and Jefferson County.
I was happy to present to the Marion County Board an official replica of the original, hand-written bill sponsored by the State Rep. Zadok Casey from Mt. Vernon who suggested the name to honor Revolutionary War General Francis Marion (“The Swamp Fox”) who was his dad’s commander during that fight for freedom. Look for more Bicentennial activities throughout 2023.
