On Friday Nov. 5, 2021, there was a ribbon-cutting dedication for the Salem Lions Club’s Addy & Friends Inclusive Playground in Bryan Memorial Park in Salem. The playground is named for Addy Rose. Her father Kyle Rose expressed his thanks to all those involved for their kindness, generosity, and love for one another.
Lion’s Club member Shelly McIntosh led the fundraising effort that topped its goal to allow a larger than originally planned playground as well as adding other recreational activities in the park. Part of the funding came from an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant of $210,700 from the state. (Learn more about the grants HERE.) The playground includes ADA accessible parking, ramp, and sidewalks, solid soft playground surfacing that provides fall relief while enabling access with wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers.
“This is a good example of a public-private partnership where tax dollars can help leverage local city funds and private donations from the community to accomplish good things for our children,” commented Rep. Blaine Wilhour. “Children of all abilities will have a well-lit, safe place to play together.”
After the ribbon was cut, the gates to the playground were opened and many kids on hand ran to try out all the new equipment. (Read more about the opening at the WJBD Radio website HERE.
