State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) is encouraging people to donate blood if they are healthy. Through the American Red Cross, there are two types of donations that can be made: Blood and Power Red.
“Our friends and neighbors are very generous and giving in Illinois and I’d like to encourage everyone who is healthy to consider donating blood at this time to replenish the blood banks,” commented Rep. Wilhour. “We never know when someone close to us will need our donation to help save their life as a result of an operation, accident or natural disaster.”
The most common type of donation is blood donations, during which approximately a pint of ‘whole blood’ is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Negative, B Negative, or O blood.
