Kaskaskia College Turns 85!

“Congratulations to Kaskaskia College on your 85th Anniversary and your impact on the educational opportunities and economic impact for our region in south central Illinois,” commented Rep. Blaine Wilhour.

On Saturday, Kaskaskia College (KC) president, George Evans, welcomed students, alumni, faculty, staff, community leaders, and the public to the Centralia campus to mark 85 years of KC. Beginning in 1940 as “Centralia Township Junior College,” Kaskaskia College became the first recognized Community College in 1965 in the State of Illinois and celebrates 60 years this year as part of the Community College System.

KC Board of Trustees president, Bill Hawley, and other elected officials talked about the impact of the college to Centralia and the region. Current student ambassadors provided tours of the campus facilities with some having the opportunity to see the new equipment that creates artificial intelligence (A.I.) powered virtual cadavers that is revolutionizing anatomical education with interactive 3-D digital models of real human bodies. This allows for detailed exploration and dissection lessons for personalized learning experiences without the costs and ethical concerns of actual physical cadavers.

These platforms provide high-definition, digitized cadavers based on real frozen slices of five different human bodies. Students can manipulate and dissect virtual bodies, exploring anatomical structures in an interactive, real-time environment. AI can analyze student performance and deliver tailored feedback and recommendations, adapting the learning experience to individual needs.

Digital tools like these can be accessed anytime and from anywhere, enhancing flexibility and continuous engagement. Replacing physical cadavers with digital versions reduces maintenance fees and the time spent on lab management, making advanced anatomy education more affordable.
