Rep. Wilhour’s Office Provides Info on Career Opportunities at Kaskaskia College

Rep. Blaine Wilhour's Legislative Assistant, Lori Bear, explains her job working with constituents and the variety of issues that come up in a legislative office.

State Rep. Blaine Wilhour’s Office participated in the most recent Kaskaskia College (KC) Career Conference for 8th Grade students from five counties served by KC. Information packets were provided to each student who chose the session hosted by Rep. Wilhour and his staff. The Career Conference was held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025.

Students who are going to be starting high school next year have an opportunity to meet with five (5) different businesses and employers to explore potential career ideas. State Representative Blaine Wilhour continued his support of this program to give students a chance to ask questions about being an elected official as well as learn about the many jobs available working in a district office, at the state Capitol, or around the state of Illinois.

The students who showed an interest in the legislature learned about the Honorary Page Program through the House of Representatives where they spend the day at the Capitol shadowing Rep. Wilhour to committee hearings and during legislative session on the House Floor.

Students also learned about the 29 Departments in the Illinois State Government and the online resources to search for jobs statewide using different variables to focus on specific job interests. Job openings can be identified by location (county by county if desired), by type (office, mechanic, finance), or even by key word(s) (outdoors, law enforcement, recreational).
