Career Conference at Kaskaskia College Helps 8th Graders Learn of Many Options

District Director and Legislative Assistant Lori Bear explains what a State Rep. does and her role as support staff in a legislative office.

State Rep. Blaine Wilhour’s office participated in helping to teach over 1,400 middle school students from Marion, Clinton, and Washington Counties about the many options available to them as career goals. In addition to the various positions within the legislative branch, students learned about the tools available through the ilga.gov and the IllinoisJobLink.com websites to search for open positions and learn about job descriptions and starting salaries.

For those students who expressed an interest in the Illinois General Assembly, they were encouraged to apply for the “Page-for-a-Day” program during the legislative session to spend the day at the Capitol and learn first-hand about the legislative process.
