Rep. Wilhour Recognizes Salem’s History at Bicentennial Celebration

State Representative Blaine Wilhour presented the Mayor of the City of Salem a certificate during the Bicentennial Celebration of Salem being selected as the County Seat for Marion County 200 years ago in 1823.

The celebration began with a 10:00 AM dedication of a marker for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, recognition of local historian Frank Brinkerhoff, and comments from the American Legion Auxillary, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and Children of the American Revolution.

Pictured (2nd from right) is Salem native and U.S. Army Veteran Troy Williams, 3rd U.S. Infantry, who spoke about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Williams served as part of the Old Guard and Escort to the President of the United States and participated with ‘Flags In’ at Arlington National Cemetery when a flag was placed at every gravesite.
