State Representative Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) and State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) welcomed Richland County Sheriff Andrew Hires and his wife Trisha to the State Capitol today for the Illinois Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony to honor those who lost their lives during 2022.

“This morning we paid tribute to Illinois’ fallen heroes and their families during the Illinois Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony in Springfield. May their sacrifice never be forgotten,” said Rep. Adam Niemerg.

The Illinois Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony was held at the monument on the grounds of the State Capitol in Springfield. The Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee was established in 1985 and holds the ceremony on the first Thursday in May each year. The monument in Springfield bears the names of the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

“This memorial service is our way of saying to the families that we respect their loved one’s service and we appreciate their ultimate sacrifice,” added Rep. Blaine Wilhour. “Thank you to the good men and women who put on a uniform every day to protect our freedoms and communities.”
