The Vandalia Correctional Center is an important part of our region, serving as one of our largest employers and an anchor for our local economies. Any changes in staffing or capacity at this facility will likely have a major impact on our communities. This is why we all care so much about the future of this prison.
Right now there are rightfully of a lot of concerns about what is happening with recent inmate transfers and the likely closing of buildings. We are hosting a Town Hall at Kaskaskia College Vandalia Center to discuss the correctional center and what we have been able to learn about the Pritzker administration’s plans for it. The event is free and open to all concerned members of the public. We will update you on what information we have been able to collect from the administration and there will be time for you to offer your own comments and ask questions.
We have invited Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections to attend, but we have not received a confirmation as to whether or not he will be there.
