New Laws in 2020 Impact Families, Taxpayers & First Responders

In addition to the first bill signed into law sponsored by Rep. Blaine Wilhour in the 101st Session that allows deputy fire chiefs to use emergency lights when responding to emergencies, 256 new laws took effect this week.

One new law requires the posting of “pregnancy and childbirth rights for women.” Public Act 101-445, (House Bill 2) amends the Medical Patients’ Rights Act to require the posting of a list of rights women have with regard to care during and after pregnancy and childbirth. The rights must be posted on the public website of specified state agencies, and in a prominent place in the office of every health care provider, day-care center, Head Start location and community center.
